About Vocation Options

Our History

We established Vocation Options in 2009 when we saw that having a vocational rehabilitation company located on Maui and dedicated to Maui clients could benefit local workers. Vocation Options is a registered LLC in Hawaii State.

Our Experience

Ms. Marcia Berkowitz, CRC, LMHC is an experienced counselor and has been certified in Hawaii since 1984. She first provided vocational rehabilitation services to workers as part of the Hawaii division of a major mainland insurance corporation, gaining experience there for 20 years. She then continued providing vocational rehabilitation services along with a team of counselors in a Honolulu company, remaining there for several years. She has now been with Vocation Options since it’s outset in 2009.

During her career, she has assisted hundreds of workers with moving through the vocational rehabilitation process. Hawaii’s Department of Labor certifies her as a rehabilitation provider and has credited her disability compensation work as beneficial for clients.

In 2018, Ms. Berkowitz served as a practicum co-site supervisor for the University of Hawaii’s Department of Kinesiology and Rehabilitation Science. This program allows students to gain experience in the field of rehabilitation counselling under the guidance of a practicing Certified Rehabilitation Counselor.

Ms. Berkowitz also has extensive experience providing evaluation services in third-party legal litigation and long-term disability cases for attorneys in both Hawaii and the South Pacific.

Our Qualifications

CRC indicates Ms. Berkowitz is a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor. CRC is the premier credential designed specifically for rehabilitation counselors. The Commission on Rehabilitation Counselor Certification (CRCC) developed its credentialing process to assure the quality of services delivered to individuals with disabilities. CRCs must meet stringent eligibility requirements, including passing exams, keeping current with advanced education, having specific work experience for individuals with disabilities, adhering to a rigid code of professional ethics, and committing to learning and skill expansion by renewing her certification every five years through continuing education.

LMHC indicates Ms. Berkowitz is a Licensed Mental Health counselor. Mental health counselors are able to address personal issues that can affect injured workers. LMHCs can help individuals gain perspective on their interests, abilities, and values, and encourage clients to explore occupations, as well as the educational paths available to achieve their career goals. LMHCs collaborate with other professionals to help clients make emotional adjustments to their challenges, determine eligibility for services, develop goals, and provide career guidance. Consultation with other caregivers and agencies helps determine eligibility for rehabilitation services to improve a person’s employability, education, and quality of life.

IARP indicates Ms. Berkowitz is a member of the International Association of Rehabilitation Professionals. She has focused in the area of rehabilitation and disability case management. This specialty provides professional development, continuing education, research and networking for vocational and medical case managers who coordinate care for individuals with disabilities.

Hawaii State Worker’s Compensation Division Certification indicates Ms. Berkowitz is qualified to provide comprehensive vocational rehabilitation services to injured workers. Hawaii’s Department of Labor maintains guidelines and a list of certified vocational rehabilitation providers.
